It is a little known fact that when it comes to websites, blogs are more than just words.
Google looooves new content, so those blogs and news articles can do wonders for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). So why not ask yourself these two questions:
- When was the last time you posted a blog on your website?
- Was the blog SEO-optimised?
If you answers were
And
- Wa-huh?
Then read on reader, read on!
To Blog or Not to Blog
Writing blogs for your website might be on the bottom of your to-do list, but it's vital that you not only embrace blogs, but also ensure that your blogs are crafted carefully for search engine optimisation.
Great SEO optimised blogs will help drive more traffic to your website, and more traffic means more customers!
Don't know where to start? Don't worry, Six Ticks have created our top tips to help you become a blogging master:
-
Embrace Keywords
Google needs to know what your blog is about, so make sure you put keywords in your blog title and include keywords about different areas of your business within the blog text; i.e. web development, web design, website designing, website development in Shropshire, etc. However don't overuse or 'stuff' keywords.
-
NEVER Duplicate Content
Google hates plagiarism, so avoid copying and pasting text from your site or other people's. Remember to keep blog content natural and don't add or force content just for the sake of it.
Also, remember to make sure your CMS isn't duplicating your content without you knowing. Even missing a / from one of your URLs can mean your site ends up with duplicate content.
-
Make Sure you Write Enough
Unfortunately a 100 word blog hastily written on your coffee break won't help you to become best buds with Google.
To appease the Google Gods blogs must be at least 400 words. We recommend that if possible you publish blogs that are between 600 - 1200 words.
-
Add Images
Try to include images within your blog post - this not only provides a better experience for readers, but also helps with SEO.
Make sure you label images using ALT tags (descriptions), as without even looking at the image Google wants to know what it is (they also want to check you are being honest).
For example, if your image is of a mobile app, then the title shouldn't be "DSC777.jpg" or "crm-system.jpg", but "mobile-app.jpg". Make sure you complete the ALT tag section to describe the picture when uploading images to blogs.
-
Blog Frequently
Google loves to see websites with fresh content so try to publish a new blog at least once a week, but even more if possible. Believe us, it'll be worth it if it helps to drive more traffic to your site.
-
ALWAYS Include a Call to Action
Make sure every blog includes a clear call to action with a link to your contact details, booking pages, online shop, mobile app page, etc. If you mention a service or another page on your website, make sure you provide a link to it so people can find out more!
